Oral Presentation by Prof. Ajda Çoker Gürkan

22.06.2021

On June 22 at 11:00, Prof. Ajda Çoker Gürkan will present an online seminar titled “Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone-Specific X-Aptamers triggers autophagy-endoplasmic reticulum stress axis-mediated apoptosis via EMT inhibition in MIA PaCa-2 and HT-29 cells”.

Prof. Ajda Çoker Gürkan's resume and Zoom information are below:

Prof. Ajda Çoker Gürkan received her B.Sc. degree in Biology from Faculty of Science, Marmara University in 2002. She completed her M.Sc. thesis (2005) entitled “The association between IL-1 receptor gene polymorphism and coronary artery disease”; a study on single nucleotide changes in cytokine genes associated with autoimmune diseases. She received her PhD degree Marmara University Biology Programme with her thesis (2009) entitled “Cloning and expression of the human growth hormone (GH) and genetic characterization of the isolated growth hormone deficiency syndrome”. Her current research areas include elucidating the molecular action mechanisms of candidates of various drugs (curcumin, atiprimod, triptolide) in colon, breast and pancreatic cancer cells through intracellular signaling pathways, investigating the molecular mechanism of new drug targets. She is also interested in synthesis and characterization of aptamer-based drugs and modeling their anti-carcinogenic effects. She is the co-founder of a startup firm (DAP Genomics Ltd.). Ajda Çoker Gürkan has published 54 articles within the scope of Science Citation Index (SCI), 103 international peer-reviewed papers and 4 international book chapters. Ajda Çoker Gürkan has completed 2 TUBİTAK 1001, 2 TUBİTAK 1002 projects. She has conducted undergraduate and graduate level lecturing in Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Istanbul Kültür University (Oct 2010- March 2021) and in Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of Biruni University (March 2021 – Current).
