29.11.2023

Prof. Dr. Erkan Şahinkaya, a faculty member of the Department of Bioengineering and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Bayraktar from the Department of Environmental Engineering of Izmir Institute of Technology have been accepted for their project titled "Making the Mediterranean Agri-Food Chain Future Ready through Integrated and Circular Management of Water, Nutrients and Biological Resources (MedInCircle)" within the scope of the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) Program, which supports multi-partner international projects.

The MedInCircle project aims to transform the circular management of water, nutrients and biological resources into a more sustainable and resilient agri-food chain. Global dynamics such as climate change, water scarcity and food insecurity are expected to have serious consequences. As the agri-food sector is particularly exposed to such adversities, innovative and eco-efficient solutions are urgently needed. More specifically, MedInCircle aims to develop a modular technological platform for the on-site treatment, recovery and valorization of water, wastewater and solid waste. The project involves research groups from Italy, France and Egypt and will be carried out with an international research group.

As Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, we congratulate our faculty member and his teammates and wish them success in their projects supported by "TUBITAK, Multiple Collaboration Support Programs, PRIMA Call".
