
The “Biotech Talks” event, organized by the Biotechnology Community, one of the student communities of Istanbul Medeniyet University, and addressing the issues of production innovation, process innovation and R&D investments in the field of biotechnology, was held in the Red Hall of the Central Classroom Building on December 13, 2024. The event, moderated by Dr. Lecturer Işık ÇOBAN, brought together experts from the world of biotechnology with our students and academicians.
This event, which was held for the fifth time this year, featured guests from industry and academia who presented rich content to participants by addressing the current and future potential of biotechnology. Presentations focusing on different areas of biotechnology such as Genetic Engineering, Solid Biology, Microbiology, Process Development Studies, Molecular Biology and Characterization of Pharmaceutical Compounds were followed with great interest by participants.
At the event, Dr. Lecturer Ahmet KATI from the University of Health Sciences explained how biotechnology has revolutionized the health sector and how molecular biology techniques are applied in disease diagnosis and treatment. Abdi İbrahim İlaç R&D Bioanalytical Development Manager Aykut DEMİRKIRAN emphasized the importance of R&D investments in the pharmaceutical industry and provided detailed information about innovative methods applied in drug development and product innovation processes.
Cinnagen Pharmaceuticals Senior Biotechnology Specialist Yüksel TOPALOĞLU conveyed to the participants how biotechnology-based products are shaped in the industry and emphasized the importance of reducing costs and increasing efficiency with innovative solutions. Genetic Engineer Dilara SARI focused on the opportunities offered by advances in genetic engineering and microbiology to different sectors.
The event, which was held in four sessions open to our university students and staff as well as external participants, attracted great interest from the participants. At the end of each session, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions to experts on topics they were curious about through question-answer sessions. This interactive format allowed students and industry representatives to directly exchange information, while also contributing to the professional development of our students.
